Press Release
Francis M. Miller is pleased to announce the launching of the Lone Tree "FasTracks" Business Journal, Internet Edition, to be hosted on the YourHub.com/lonetree
Over the past few years it is obvious that the major papers, such as the Wall Street Business Journal and The New York Times have become increasingly irrelevant for several reasons:
1. They are liberal and tend to promote a political agenda.
2. They are too skewed toward the interests of big business at a time when small business is creating most of the new jobs.
3. They have an editorial elite which acts as a gatekeeper to what we are supposed to want to read and do not reflect the grassroots.
4. They are print focused at a time when digital media is taking over.
5. They are not a good place for small business in rural or urban areas outside of the major cities to advertise.
6. They have no capacity to analyze the impact of state legislation or business regulation at the local government level.
7. They are unwilling to take a stand on important matters.
So, with that as a backdrop, the FasTracks Business Journal at Lone Tree is launched. Why the name FasTracks?
First and foremost, the convergence of I-25 at C470 combined with RTD's Fast Traks project will shift the epicenter of Colorado business to the Lone Tree area. Second, when I joined Touche Ross & Co., a CPA firm now called Deloitte Touche back in 1975, a partner instructed me to walk fast where ever I went. He said, "If you are walking fast, even if you don't know where you are going or what you are doing, it will leave the other guy with the impression you do know". So, it boiled down to "Beat-Feet" or "FasTracks".
In a nutshell, here's how we intend to go about launching FasTracks.
First, Fran Miller, a business consultant will begin writing columns with the committment to post weekly.
Second, A stable of specialists, such as accountants, lawyers, marketing, tax, etc will be identified and asked to post something as significant events occur.
Third, you the reader will be encouraged to post. You can respond to our postings, initiate your own. You can write a column, report news, profile your business. You can lobby, editorialize, raise awareness, generate controversy, have the first and last word. Your opinion will count as much as anyone else's.
Fourth, to make order out of chaos, we anticipate trying to channel the energy and make the format more readable, as follows:
1. Instead of verbose articles we will publish "snippets", basically 250 word chunks. The idea is to be able to consume the snippet within the drinking of a cup of coffee.
2. Each day of the week will be dedicated to a topic. For example, Monday will be Marketing Day. Friday will be Strategy Day. Sunday will be at the end of the week and it will be called "Caboose Day" since the caboose is the car at the end of the train.
As this thing grows it may go in unexpected directions. It will leverage citizen journalism rather than the professional elite you are used to. So, the articles and comments may be rough and ready. Better from the top of your head and the heart than out your @&$%ss, I always say.
The backbone of the Rockies has shifted from being perceived as flyover country to being on the cusp of becoming the epicenter of the new economy. It has always been the most desireable place to live. We no longer need to defer to New York, Chicago or Los Angelos. And, even though the economy is globalizing, Paris and London count less than what's happening at the Statehouse and at the hub of the local community. Let the revolution begin!!
