Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. It is one of the largest community service organizations dedicated primarily to helping the children of the world.
Kiwanis International serves children and communities worldwide with nearly 600,000 adult and youth members in more than 80 nations.
The Rocky Mountain District of Kiwanis held their Midwinter Conference from February 29 - March 2, 2008 at the Denver Marriott West Hotel in Golden.The Rocky Mountain District of Kiwanis International consists of 4,044 members serving in 116 clubs located in 18 divisions throughout the states of Colorado, Wyoming, and the panhandle of Nebraska.
The convention provided over 42 training sessions and forums to provide members opportunities to learn, strengthen and improve skill sets in various leadership positions in Kiwanis. At the convention luncheon on Saturday,
Felix Cook, the Past President of the Alameda West Kiwanis Club, became the newest member of the Lusche Fellowship program.
The Noris A. LuscheFellowship was established to pay tribute to the leadership and service of Past International President, Rocky Mountain District Governor and member,
Noris Lusche. Kiwanians or others may be distinguished Lusche Fellows or honor other deserving individuals with a contribution of $1,000. This contribution may be an outright gift or paid over three years. There are over 400 members of the Lusche Fellowship.
The Lusche Fellowship is one of many programs that provides monies for the Rocky Mountain District Kiwanis Foundation, a non-profit that provides funding for many Kiwanis projects including:
- The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute at Children's Hospital
- The Rocky Mountain District of Key Club International
- The Rocky Mountain District of Circle K International
- Other worthwhile programs sponsored by Rocky Mountain District Kiwanis Clubs.
The Alameda West Kiwanis Club now has a total of eighteen Lusche Fellowship members who are Past Presidents, Secretaries, and Directors of the Alameda West Club. Members include: Richard Lisseveld, Jim Haberer, David Harris, Barbara Fuller, Jo Lynn Osborne, Jeff Ehlinger, Judith Lyke, Peter Luce, Eldon Kunz, Anne Meier, Tom Malone, Frank Miyazawa, Clarke Morrison, Betty Proctor, Kathleen Stapleton, Neal Price, Carl Reid, and Felix Cook.
