I was asked by one of my friends and vice president of the Metro State history club, Ruthanne Johnson, to write a poem for the Tuskegee Airmen. After learning more about the Tuskegee airmen, I insisted on volunteering at the event. To me, these men are amazing and their fight for the right to fly is admirable.
Tuskegee Airmen
Tuskegee Airmen
Soaring through the sky
Eagles pride
Shots fly by the wings
Of the double engine planes
Whoosh, a dive
Whoosh to survive
Valor masked by a fight
For proof, for love of a country
Time has past, decades
The honor to the men
Is at long last placed,
Upon their breast
A symbol of acceptance
A symbol of strength
To fight and die
For a country which is theirs
A country in their hearts
They know is true
The integrity and
Passion for those who flew
To the Tuskegee Airmen
Soaring through the sky
Eagles pride
Airmen fly, equality
