Here's the second poem that I wrote for the chapbook, which was produced by the Metro State poetry club. It was important for me to be involved with such a wonderful event to honor the Tuskegee Airmen. Patricia Vickery
Tuskegee
The clouds whoosh by
They don't even have to try
They have the gift of flight
To win their fight
Battles on the ground
Fighting for a country that doesn't
Want them around
Bold, brave and true
Without having to prove
They must prove
To everyone
Families wait for letters
Of their airmen
In the skies
Listening to radio
To hear the battle
Cries
Cries of Equality
Cries of patience
Another plane goes down
To the ground in a spiral
BAM! It lands
Metal melting into the
Earth
