Lakewood child care center honors children
Contributed by: Beverly Eagle on 6/5/2007

The Advantage Learning Center located in Lakewood recently enjoyed a springtime celebration of the Week of the Young Child. The Week of the Young Child is an event sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The purpose of the week is to honor the more than 34 million children from birth through age eight in America - and the families, teachers and others who help to make children's early years positive and rewarding.

The Advantage Learning Center in Lakewood chose to celebrate the week by focusing on literacy for young children. Vicki Stack, Lakewood Councilmember; Jackie Fling, regional GSA coordinator; Janice Jacobs, Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs Denver Regional Office; and her
assistant Mark Bilosz, all visited the center to read to the children and participate in recognizing the children and the staff at the center.

The center also sponsored a book swap so families and children who attend the center could swap gently-used books with one another in order to enhance their own personal libraries. In addition, children visited the local library and attended a literacy event at Red Rocks Community College.

The successful week enabled the Advantage Learning Center to reach out to its families and the community, featuring the importance of literacy and the joy of celebrating children.
