Alameda Speech Team caps off record season

After a record-breaking season, the Alameda Pirate Speech Team set even more school records at the State Festival Speech Tournament at Heritage High School January 25 and 26. Out of twenty-five schools, with close to 300 students competing, Alameda finished in fifth place overall.

Earning "Excellent" certificates were Kyle Sousa in Poetry, Aurora Lindholm in Value Debate, and Samantha Valenzuela in Humor. Nikki Work finished 8th in Original Oratory. In Dramatic Interp, Audra Schmidt was 9th while Finalist Bethany Richardson came home the bronze medalist, finishing 3rd. In Duet Humor, Abdul Tariq & Margaret Kimble finished 7th, and in Duet Drama Finalists Katy Allen & Devon Moody finished with the 4th-place medal.

In Interpretation of Poetry Katy Allen was 8th, J essica Cooke was 7th, and Finalist Grace Upshaw was the 5th-place medalist. In Solo Acting, Aurora Lindholm finished 11 th, and the Pirates had two finalists; Devon Moody was the 4 th place medalist, while Abdul Tariq brought home the silver medal, finishing 2nd.

In all, fourteen Pirates won awards at State, eleven Pirates finished in the top twelve, five Pirates made the finals, and the team finished in 5 th place, all school records. For the season Alameda won 134 individual awards and had eighteen individual champions, also school records.
