CCU hosts forum on Christian heritage of America
Contributed by: Colorado Christian University on 3/24/2008

In a continuing series of open discussion forums, Colorado Christian University (CCU) hosted this month one of the nation's best-known experts on the subject of America's Christian heritage. According to the research of David Barton, our nation's founding fathers were populated with evangelical Christians, and it was their intention for our country to be built upon the principles of honoring Jesus Christ.

David Barton is the founder and president of Wall Builders, a national pro-family organization that presents America's forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on our moral, religious, and constitutional heritage. He challenges the claim of many historians and politicians that our founding fathers expected a secular America and for church and state to be aggressively separated. Barton stated that "the insistence that America be secular in its views and policies is dangerous and stems from a narrow segment of politicians who have their own agenda-that agenda being that the only view of what our nation's character is to be seen through the economics of power."

Barton was named by Time magazine as one of America's 25 most influential evangelicals, and has received numerous national and international awards, including Who's Who in Education and DAR's highest award, the George Washington Honor Medal. His work in media has merited several Angel Awards, Telly Awards, and the Dove Foundation Seal of Approval.

President of Colorado Christian University and former U. S. Senator Bill Armstrong stated, "The University is intent on bringing as many modern scholars as possible onto campus to speak directly about some of the most challenging issues of our times. We believe it is our absolute obligation to get the Christian worldview in front of as many people as possible, and we are going to do just that. In times as dangerous as we face, it is time for everyone to demand an opportunity to place Christian principles at the head of the list of things to support."

This past fall, CCU launched an unprecedented commitment to aggressive discussion of such key topics as the strengths and weaknesses of hate crime legislation, the Christian heritage of our nation, and the theory of intelligent design. According to Armstrong, "It is important to help our students and residents of the surrounding communities hear informed arguments against the spent ideas of secularism."
