Andy Kerr candidate for House District 26
Contributed by: Andy Kerr on 10/9/2008

Andy Kerr is running for House District 26 and answered a questionnaire for YourHub.com. To read all of the candidate questionnaires, click here.

My name:Andy Kerr

My age: 39

My family: Wife, Tammy, and two children

Education: B.A. in Geography from the University of Colorado, 1993; teaching license; M.A. ILT from the University of Colorado, 1999; Principal license from the University of Colorado, 2003.

What I do: I have worked for JeffCo Schools for 11 years as a teacher and curriculum specialist.

My favorite local place to hang out: 240 Union

What I like most about living here: Bike riding on Green Mountain and the friendly neighbors

My interests and hobbies: Biking, snowboarding, hiking

My favorite thing to cook: Sunday morning waffles with my family

People who inspire me (and how): My grandmother - at age 91, she packed up her home of 50 years and moved to Colorado to be near her family.

How I have contributed to the community: I was a Board Member of the Green Mountain Civic Association (1996-2002) and I am an Honorary Board Member for the Second Wind Fund (2007-present)

The biggest issues facing us now: The biggest issue facing us today is the linked issues of the economy and energy. Colorado has the natural resources, renewable and fossil fuels, to be energy independent and a leader in the new energy economy. We need to make investment in renewable energy a priority to create jobs and make sure we have the educational resources to prepare Colorado's workforce for green collar jobs.

Why I am running: As a resident of Lakewood for over 30 years, I have seen our town grow from a sleepy suburb into a modern and exciting city. Even with that growth, Lakewood has managed to keep the ideals that I value, such as western independence and a sense of community.

Representing the citizens of House District 26 is a challenging and rewarding experience. I intend to continue to fight for strong public education, affordable health care, and our vibrant business community in Lakewood. Serving in the legislature has reinforced my belief in our democratic processes. I look forward to returning to the Capitol to continue this important work.
