Two artists offering very different types of work will be featured this month at the Lakewood Arts Council's South Union Gallery.
Drama and color in landscape painting are typical of artist Ellie Walker. Her work captures scenes from Colorado as well as many other places in the U.S. An active bird watcher, Ellie draws inspiration from places she walks as well as the many birds she discovers. She has a degree in oil painting with a minor in drama from Penn State University.
In sharp contrast to Ellie's work are the acrylic paintings by Jane McFadden Dorsey. Her work is wildly imaginative and borders on the abstract. You'll find quotations, found objects, inventive color and a whole range of subjects in Jane's acrylic paintings. In addition, she displays a menagerie of animals created in papier mache. Using paper pulp and chicken wire, Jane achieves humorous poses and interesting textures for her creatures. Jane works for Cat Care Society as their volunteer co-ordinator. She also provides classes, workshops and demonstrations for area arts groups.
