South Union Gallery's September featured artists
Contributed by: Barbara Benik on 8/23/2006

Two artists offering very different types of work will be featured this month at the Lakewood Arts Council's South Union Gallery.

Drama and color in landscape painting are typical of artist Ellie Walker. Her work captures scenes from Colorado as well as many other places in the U.S. An active bird watcher, Ellie draws inspiration from places she walks as well as the many birds she discovers. She has a degree in oil painting with a minor in drama from Penn State University.

In sharp contrast to Ellie's work are the acrylic paintings by Jane McFadden Dorsey. Her work is wildly imaginative and borders on the abstract. You'll find quotations, found objects, inventive color and a whole range of subjects in Jane's acrylic paintings. In addition, she displays a menagerie of animals created in papier mache. Using paper pulp and chicken wire, Jane achieves humorous poses and interesting textures for her creatures. Jane works for Cat Care Society as their volunteer co-ordinator. She also provides classes, workshops and demonstrations for area arts groups.

To see more of these artists' work, and to view the monthly changing exhibits, visit the Lakewood Arts Council's South Union Gallery, located at 85 S. Union Blvd, Lakewood (4 blocks south of 6 th Avenue on Union, turn in by Wendy's) next door to Kobe An restaurant. Hours are 10-5 Tuesday-Friday and 10-4 Saturday and Sunday. (Closed Mondays) For information, call 303-980-0625 or
