The 29th Annual "Views of the East and West" exhibit sponsored by Lakewood-based Mountainside Art Guild is currently on display at the South Union Gallery through February 24.
This popular, long-running show includes the work of some of the area's most talented artists. This year's Best of Show winner is a pastel titled "Sleepy Village" by Wheat Ridge artist Cal Johnson. Several Lakewood artists also have work in the show, including paintings by Merit award winners Barbara Benik and Lois Mool, and artists Elizabeth Atkins, Kathy Berls, Marcia Brill, Arleen Brogan Smith, Kate Cissell, Chuck Gilmore, Susan Gordon, Karen Hall, Shizuko Barbara Hanson, Lynnette Kupferer, Barbara Mantei, Warner Reeser, Lillian Svoboda, and Barbara Tobiska.
The large display of over 130 works shows how the artists interpret the theme of things having to do with western or Asian cultures. It provides the perfect addition to National Western Stock Show month as well as the Chinese New Year's celebrations.
Mountainside Art Guild is dedicated to the pursuit and promotion of artistic endeavors in visual fine arts including
original painting, drawing, photography, collage, silk-screen, etching, sculpture, digital, etc. The Guild is made up of artists ranging from the amateur to the professional.
