Lakewood gallery sees the world in black and white
Contributed by: Barbara Benik on 3/2/2007

A most unusual exhibit is now on display through March 24 at the Lakewood Arts Council's South Union Gallery. Called "Images in Black and White....plus one" the show features over 150 works done in black, white and gray tones with the addition of one color element as an option. The result is a display of work that is so strong and varied, it amazes and delights the viewer.

Each piece is unique in interpretation and execution by artists who have explored the theme with a wide variety of media. Included are works done in oils, acrylics, graphite, pastels, photography and mixed media - there are even some pieces done in pen and ink on stone. One outstanding work is "Heroes - Law Enforcement" an acrylic by artist Rodney Wallace. This is a monumental piece which borders on the abstract with its bold black and white images. Another piece of note is "Rural Route" by M.G. Davis; looking closely, one sees that this work is a combination of tiny painted squares that merge together to make the total image.

Visit the Lakewood Arts Council's South Union Gallery, located at 85 S. Union Blvd, Lakewood (4 blocks south of 6th Avenue on Union, turn in by Wendy's) next door to Kobe An restaurant. Hours are 10-5 Tuesday & Wednesday, 10-7 Thursday, 10-5 Friday, and 10-4 Saturday and Sunday. (Closed Mondays) For information, call 303-980-0625 or visit our website at www.lakewoodartscouncil.org
