Denver - Make reservations now for the Sacred Landmarks
Angels in the Architecture concert and silent auction which will take place beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2008 at the historic St. John's Cathedral at 1350 Washington Street.
In a departure from recent years' programs, 2008's
Angels in the Architecture concert will feature a variety of performances by several local groups, including the
Cherry Creek Chorale, an auditioned community chorus of approximately 100 singers ranging in age from their twenties to seventies. The Chorale sings a varied repertoire of the great choral works, from well-known classics to contemporary pieces. In counterpoint to the large and diverse Chorale, the concert will also feature the vocals of
Planina, a mixed chorus of 8-14 singers that performs soulful harmonies from across Eastern Europe, from Albania to the Ukraine. The group sings in the original languages with regional vocal styling, and for most appearances dons beautiful, traditional folk costumes. In addition to these distinguished guests, the concert will also feature performers intimately familiar with the Cathedral.
St. John's Director of Music and Organist Stephen Tappe will treat the audience to the powerfully beautiful sounds of the Cathedral's historic pipe organ. In addition, Mr. Tappe will lead the
Schola Cantorum, a select group of singers from the ranks of the St. John's Cathedral Choir.
This
Angels in the Architecture concert will be a treat for the ears and the eyes as the concert takes place at the stunning St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, a Colorado State and National Register of Historic Places designated landmark. Designed by the New York architectural firm of Tracy and Swartout and dedicated in 1911, St. John's is an English Gothic-style cathedral built of dressed Indiana limestone. The soaring arched ceilings and breathtaking stained glass windows of the Cathedral's nave make it a particularly wonderful place to enjoy music performances.
