On Monday, March 24, The Denver Concert Bandconducted their Young Artist Competitionat Central Presbyterian Church, 1660 Sherman St. The winner of this competition won a $2,000 check and the opportunity to play with the band during a concert. There were four very talented young artists, all seniors in high school.
The Denver Concert Band gives this award out every year to a winning student. Their hope is that the student will take the money and buy an instrument that will carry them onto the next part or level of their musical career.
Many students have instruments that are either rented, purchased used, or one that is a lesser quality than they need to elevate themselves in their musical development. Some students are fortunate enough to have a quality instrument but could use help in other areas of development that this could be used for.
