Contributed by: Cher Haavind on 5/15/2006

Explore the wonder of Brazil through its people and landscapes at the "Brazil: Faces and Places" photo exhibit, May 19 - June 16 in the Susan K. Arndt Gallery at Red Rocks Community College, 13300 W. Sixth Ave, Lakewood.

The exhibit will include photographs taken by RRCC instructor Francis Wardle, PhD. during his three-week trip to Brazil in 2005, which was sponsored by Partners of the Americas. The mission of Wardle's trip was to study Brazilian early childhood education programs and schools, as well as Brazil's approach to people of mixed-race heritage. Photos on display were taken in Uberlandia, Belo Horizonte and Serra do Cipo (national park) - all within the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais - with additional photographs of Brasilia, the federal district of Brazil.

Francis Wardle, PhD is an instructor in the early childhood education and the psychology departments at Red Rocks Community College. His photographs have appeared on the covers of national magazines, including Pentax Life, Baby Talk, Young Children, and Childhood Education and in a variety of books and magazines, including "Play, Development and Early Education," Mothering Magazine, and Akwesasne Notes. His work has also been exhibited in Santa Fe, N.M., Taos, N.M., Kansas City, MO., Greeley, CO. and at the University of Maine.

Partners of the Americas is a non-profit organization whose mission is "to work together as citizen volunteers from Latin America, the Caribbean and the Untied States to improve the lives of people across the hemisphere."

The exhibit kicks-off with an opening reception Friday, May 19 from 5 - 8 p.m.; refreshments will be served. The exhibit is free, open to the public and accessible during the college's regular business hours. For more information call 303.914.6427. Persons requesting accommodations for disabilities should contact the Office of Special Services at least 72 hours prior to attending. Please call 303.914.6733.
