My mom, my superhero

A day in the life of ... My mom

You know they're out there. The ones that live in secret, hiding under the piles of mom jeans and orthopedic, comfortable shoes. Who are these hidden secret women, you might ask?

You hear the phrase "super mom" thrown around all the time; it's used to categorize the millions of dedicated mothers who work their entire lives to support their families. Not only is my mom one of those "super-moms," over the fifteen years and eight months of my life she can only be called one thing: She's a SUPERWOMAN. No, seriously, I think there's super-powers involved.

She's mother of teenage triplets, for one thing, and I think that alone says a lot about her. Every morning, she dons her superhero cape, drinks her coffee, full of the super-powers for the day, and sets off. With a huge schedule full of schooling (She has an alter-ego as an ultrasound technician student!), driving her 15-year-old kids around to everything from volunteering to wheelchair basketball and trips to the mall, this superwoman allows few slip-ups. But the occasional grumpy moment is allowed for a superhero of her caliber, I like to think.

The best part is, she doesn't like to admit to her supernatural abilities. She blushes, when we exclaim to our friends the extent of her powers, but we all know that behind a modest person, an extraordinary one exists. If only every society could be more educated about people like my mother!

Just look. You'll find one, I promise. I'm sure they're more out there like my mom, living their superhero secret lives in hiding. But have no fear, there might just be one in your house, too!
