Imagine for a moment, what the world would be like if only good news were reported. If the only things we heard about and saw were positive. I could live with that, but life is complicated, and we hear about bad people and terrible things happening around us all the time. Besides, when unfortunate or tragic events unfold, is when we're likely to hear about the good people with a genuine interest in making our world a better place. They spring into action with ideas. They bring to life concepts, that with support can bring those ideas to fruition.
Michele Wiechman is one of those people right here in our midst.A Green Mountain High School alumni, Michele has become Colorado's youngest elected official, and was elected May 6 to the Board of Directors of the Green Mountain Water and Sanitation District. Receiving the highest number of votes in a field of 10 candidates, she turned 19 just one month before the elections.
Currently employed at Pinyon Environmental Engineering Resources, she also takes general classes at Red Rocks Community College and engineering classes at the Colorado School of Mines, where next fall she will be a junior in their geology program.
Ms. Wiechman is no stranger to public service, and has been actively involved in the Green Mountain community for some time. Having been appointed to the city of Lakewood's Youth Commission during her high school years, she was eventually elected Chair of the Commission by her peers. She is also a graduate of the West Chamber's Leadership Jefferson County program, and served on the city's Youth Commission and graduated from Youth Leadership Jeffco. An accomplished musician, Michele was active in orchestra while attending GMHS as well as the Key Club, where she served as President.
Michele comes from a family that is active in the Green Mountain community. Her father,
David Wiechman, is vice-president of West Metro Fire District, and her sister
Rachel, who is currently a junior, also graduated from Youth Leadership Jeffco and served on the city's Youth Commission.
