Local dignitaries participated in a ceremonial groundbreaking May 9 for an addition to Alameda High School, 1255 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood. The $10 million Alameda addition will include a new two-story building as part of the first phase of a two-phase construction project. This addition will expand to the east of the existing building toward Wadsworth Boulevard and house approximately 45,000 square feet of academic programs.
The first floor of the addition will include a large academic lecture and seminar space, a computer lab, special education rooms, a new family and consumer studies suite, and technical and support spaces. The second floor will include eight new science classrooms/laboratories and teacher preparation areas. The addition is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2009.
All areas within the new addition will conform to the latest Jefferson County School District educational specifications, which include a high-tech infrastructure, modern science laboratories, high-energy efficiency, high lighting levels, current technologies for security, day-lighting in the classrooms, high-tech computer access, and interactive Smart Boards. The location, materials, and colors of the building addition will upgrade the appearance of Alameda High School. In addition, athletic and P.E. locker room renovations will improve the use of the current gym.
