Stand Up and DANCE!

Chris Harris and her Louder Than Words Dancetheatre will take center stage Stand Up and DANCE! on Saturday, May 31 and Friday/Saturday, June 6-7 at 8 p.m. at the Byron Theatre located in DU's Newman Center, 2344 East Iliff Avenue, Denver. Staged within a world at once familiar and foreign from our day-to-day existence, dancers and musician roam through the show in both formal pieces and vignettes. The vignettes allow a continuous flow of movement and story-- giving the audience a place to hang its emotional hat. Stand Up & Dance includes the modern works WYND and Sensorium as well as the premiere of a modernjazz suite.

Louder Than Words Rehearsal and Workshop Concept

In October 2006 LTW produced Nocturnography at the Denver School of the Arts. This was the first show that was truly a result of the LTW company rehearsals and workshop concept and it was very well-received. Nocturnography allowed LTW to explore the idea that a fully-conceptualized production with a through-line engages a wider audience and can expand peoples' perceptions of dance in a contemporary setting

The Rehearsal and Workshop Concept allows the public to observe the company's process and progress on the 1st Friday of each month along with a few scheduled workshop performances. Access to rehearsals allows dance patrons and those interested in learning about dance a forum in which questions about the works or dance in general can be asked and answered without fear. The Workshops give the public the rare opportunity to give the Choreographer feedback. Rehearsals and Workshops are held at the new Living Arts Center, 2231 South Platte River Drive and there is a suggested donation at the door for the Workshop Shows but the other 1 st Friday rehearsals are free.

Chris Harris, Artistic Director and Choreographer for Louder Than Words Dancetheatre, was born in Denver and has a BFA in Dance from the University of Colorado and a second degree in Architecture. She is currently an Artist in Residence at the Denver School of the Arts; and on the faculty of Dance Kaleidoscope and A Living Arts Centre. She has choreographed for local theaters; been a guest lecturer at The Arts Institute of Colorado and CSU; designed many websites; and is a co-director of the Boulder Jazz Dance Workshop, the Assistant Artistic Director of Interweave Dancetheatre and the Artistic Director/Choreographer Colorado Youth Danse Theatre in Denver. Her current obsession is creating a system to record choreography using digital media and animation.
