Kids line up to dunk dad for a great cause
Contributed by: Brittany Maynor on 6/17/2008

Kids of all ages took their best shot at putting Dad in the dunk tank at Belmar on Father's Day. More than 40 kids lined up to dunk dad or a local firefighter as a benefit for West Metro Fire.

"This was a fun way to celebrate Father's Day," said dunker, Kate Krohn. "It was a great way to spend time with my Dad and also help West Metro Fire."

For a $5 donation, kids were given three tries to dunk their Dad in the tank. Proceeds from the event will benefit West Metro's Family Support Network, an organization supporting firefighter families during critical times of need and crisis. West Metro Fire collected $220 on Sunday.

"We want to thank all the kids and their fathers for their support," said Cindy Matthews from West Metro Fire. "The proceeds from this event will be used for family members of firefighters that are in need of our support, including some families with a dad or husband serving in Iraq."

Wet dads were treated to an ice cream, compliments of Ben & Jerry's. The once-a-year event was part of The Market at Belmar. The Market, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday through September 28, sells fruits and vegetables, fresh flowers, culinary herbs and baked goods. Other events at the Market included cooking demonstrations, urban gardening classes, and open bocce. For more information visit www.belmarcolorado.com or call 303-742-1520.
