A variety of free tributes including musical performances, a sky diving demonstration, a parade of pipers, dove releases and fireworks, will be held throughout Memorial Day Weekend at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, Cemetery & Arboretum, located at 7777 W. 29th Ave. in Wheat Ridge.
Tributes begin on Saturday, May 24 when nearly 200 flags are set along the esplanade, providing a striking and moving entry into the cemetery. A bagpiper will perform at the historic Tower of Memories at 12:30 p.m. followed by a dove release.
At 12:30 p.m., Sunday, May 25 events begin with a bagpiper performance and a dove release at the Tower of Memories. At 7 p.m., there will be an exciting American Flag Skydiving Demonstration by Colorado Sky Sports followed by an uplifting concert at 7:15 p.m. featuring the Queen City Jazz Band in the Pavilion of Reflection. The evening will conclude with a spirited fireworks display at 9 p.m.
At 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, a special ceremony will take place to memorialize the loss of beloved pets and a tree will be dedicated as a permanent memorial near the Pavilion of Reflection. This event will help families to understand their feelings after losing a pet and will provide ideas for remembering these important family members. For a donation, participants will be able to sign their pet's name on a "Quilt of Memories" and receive a memory bracelet. All donations will benefit the MAX Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing medical care for injured animals with no known owners. At 12:30 p.m. the Centennial Pipes and Drums will parade up the esplanade to the Tower of Memories. A dove release will then conclude this year's Memorial Weekend activities. Cemetery locator and floral tents will be open 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. May 24 - 26 and all events are free and open to the community.
"Memorial Weekend is always a very special time of remembrance," said Kevin Wolfe, general manager, Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, Cemetery & Arboretum. "We look forward to assisting the thousands who visit Olinger Crown Hill in every way possible as we pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and to remember all loved ones who are no longer with us," he added.
