Be thankful for turkey
Contributed by: Megan Quinn on 11/22/2007

Ah, Thanksgiving has finally arrived! Cozy homes filled with family and friends, turkey and mashed potatoes fill up the table, and everyone has something to be thankful for, For one day a year, it's OK to just sit around and stuff your face with calories and carbs all day. You get to visit with relatives that come in for the holiday and feel the warmth of having people who love you, and having people to love. The fire place is burning and of course the dogs will end up with a good portion of table scraps. Uncle Bobby and Uncle Tom will most likely start bickering about the football game and somehow the pies will disappear before Thanksgiving dinner has even begun.

But what about those who don't have a home? What about the people who spend their days in a cardboard box wandering when they will get to eat next or if there is an extra blanket somewhere? How about those who don't have any family left, who don't get to visit with all their relatives on Thanksgiving because they are all gone and because they don't even have a warm table to eat at? These people, who are no different then you and I, deserve a Thanksgiving meal, a warm cozy house to spend the holidays in, more than most.

I'm thankful for my parents, my friends, my home and my room. I'm thankful for my cell and my laptop and my ipod, my dog and my education. I'm thankful that I get to eat everyday and have as many jackets and blankets as I need. I'm thankful that I get to sleep on a bed every night. But do you know what the people who have to live on the streets are thankful for? Life. they are thankful that they still have a chance at living and that they have enough courage and enough hope that they just keep pushing through, so that maybe, just maybe, they will get their old lives back.

All I'm saying is that we should all be very thankful for everything we have, and not take anything for granted.Be thankful for everything from your fuzzy jacket to your family to the turkey sitting on the table in front of you. Because tomorrow it could be gone. And pray for those who aren't as lucky, help those who need a little extra help and a little more hope. They say that giving is better then receiving, and it's true. Seeing someone smile, genuinely smile because you help make their day just a little bit better is the best feeling in the world....... and just another thing we have to be thankful for.
