Annual Curtis Garrett Scholarships awarded
Two new deserving high school graduates have been awarded a Curtis Garrett Scholarship for 2007, plus one has been renewed.
The winners are
Emily Allen
, who is graduated from Alameda High School and will be attending McPherson College this fall, and
Amanda Siewer
t, who is graduated from Pomona High School and will be attending Metro State College this fall.
Melissa Fleming
was a winner last year. She is attending the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley. Her scholarship has been renewed for the coming school year.
The Jefferson County Democrats established the Curtis Garret Scholarship program three years ago, in memory of the much beloved 37 year veteran teacher, who spent most of his career at North High School. Mr. Garrett had an eternal interest in young people and encouraged political activism and community service. The scholarship was created to support college bound seniors, from Jefferson County high schools, who demonstrate a financial need and who are pursuing a career in Political Science and/or Education.
This year, $3,000 was awarded to these students. Packets about the scholarship were distributed to all Jefferson County High Schools.
