Young writer honored for story

Maddie Hellebush has won first place in the Colorado Council of the International Reading Association's annual Young Writers Award contest. Maddie's short story, "Coming to Dreamland," was selected from entries submitted from across Colorado in the intermediate fifth- and sixth-grade writing category. She was honored at the Young Writers' breakfast held in conjunction with the organization's state conference in Denver on Feb. 9. Maddie is a sixth-grade student at Red Rocks Elementary in Morrison.

Cindy Waldmann is the chairperson of the Young Writers' Award.
