East meets West with approaching wedding

Mike Martin, 1990 graduate of Lakewood High School, and Amy Mathewson, 1996 graduate of Smoky Hill High School in Aurora, met three summers ago at the Lonesome Dove in Denver.

Mike had showed up for a benefit for his rock band, Super V, which had disbanded due to a robbery and arson involving the band's instruments. Amy knew members of the band performing the benefit and had come to hear them play. Love strolled in and their matchup flowered from that night. It's a good thing that Amy likes music, because Mike soon dug out his Suzuki violin from elementary school days and became the fiddler for 40 Gallon Still, a bluegrass band, which performs locally--most recently at Lakewood on Parade.

Their parents announce their recent engagement and are poised to celebrate with them in Estes Park at their outdoor wedding on Sept. 29, 2007.
