Air Force 1st Lt. Geoffrey S. Whitmer has earned silver pilot's wings after completing the Air Force Undergraduate Pilot Training Program at Vance Air Force Base, Enid, Okla.
The student completed 190 flying hours in either the T-37, T-38, or T-1A aircraft, 62 flight simulator hours, 342 academic hours, 105 officer training hours, and weather training for flight plans, and the fundamentals of aircraft handling, instrumentation, formation, and night flying.
At the end of the training, the officer received an aeronautical rating of pilot in the Air Force, competent and qualified to perform the duties and responsibilities thereof.
He is the son of Jim and Carla Whitmer of N. Mount Bigelow Road, Tucson, Ariz., and Tammy and Malcolm Smith of Ponderosa Ave., Henderson, Nev.
His wife, Suzanne, is the daughter of Tony and Patty Barranco of Cody St., Lakewood, Colo.
Whitmer graduated in 2000 from San Manuel High School, Ariz., and received a bachelor's degree in 2004 from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
