Lakewood man reserve champion of 2006 Harvest Show

More than 550 entries in 13 categories were part of the 2006 Harvest Show sponsored by Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners in Jefferson County. Charlotte Gottlieb of Arvada was named Grand Champion, and John Shea of Lakewood was Reserve Grand Champion for the show. Both are long-time Colorado Master Gardeners in Jefferson County.

"Garden Glories," the theme for the show, featured eleven traditional horticultural divisions for competition and display, a division for the display of garden photography and a whimsical division for the display of homemade scarecrows.

Other Lakewood winners included champion Jane Thorell in the Trees, Shrubs, Vines category with reserve champion Shea. Diana Calef won reserve champion in the Herbs category while Peter K Szilagyi of Littleton, was awarded champion. Calef also was awarded reserve champion in Everlastings while Duane Davidson, of Arvada, was named champion. Shea was awarded champion and reserve champion in Containers.

The Aug. 26-27 show at Echter's Garden Center in Arvada was open to the public for both entries and viewing. For more information on horticulture topics call Cooperative Extension in Jefferson County at (303) 271-6620.
