Lakewood resident Helen Cox was honored Saturday, June 10th, for successfully graduating from Stride, a nonprofit that helps low-income families move to self-sufficiency. The mother of three teenagers, Cox has been employed in American National Bank's Trust Department for more than a year, and was recently promoted. Two of her children, LaTroya and Troy, also recently graduated from high school, and both came to the Awards picnic held at Addenbrooke park to celebrate their mother's success.
Stride is a Lakewood nonprofit that helps single mothers like Helen move from welfare to self-sufficiency. Cox was honored for maintaining stable employment for more than a year while also maintaining a home for her three children and one grandchild. Helen said, "Stride helped here set goals when I didn't know which way I was was going. Now it feels good being able to support my family."
