Local man takes job in China with Cirque du Soleil
On 2/1/2008
Contributed by: Amy Ryk on 4/3/2008

Darrin Johnson, a Bear Creek High School graduate and Colorado native, arrived at The Venetian Resort/Casino in Macau, China, in mid-February to play drums for the up and coming new Cirque du Soleil production. He auditioned for Cirque du Soleil in Los Angeles, Calif., at the end of 2004 and was chosen from thousands of drummers around the world to become the newest drummer in their company for the resident show that will open in August of 2008.

Darrin has been a drummer most of his life and is very excited about this opportunity. In years past, he has been a performing musician in Denver with local bands, such as Jakarta, Dotsero, Nelson Rangell and the Rob Mullins band. He has performed on many artists' CDs and has also been a standing musician at Mile Hi Church of Religious Science.

Darrin's parents, Don and Evelyn Johnson, his wife, Amy Ryk (who will be joining him in May), and his dog, Charlie, are very excited and supportive of this journey and will try to visit him often.
