Imagine for a moment, what the world would be like if only good news were reported. If the only things we heard about and saw were positive. I could live with that, but life is complicated, and we hear about bad people and terrible things happening around us all the time. Besides, when unfortunate or tragic events unfold, is when we're likely to hear about the good people with a genuine interest in making our world a better place. They spring into action with ideas. They bring to life concepts, that with support can bring those ideas to fruition.
Michele Wiechman is one of those people right here in our midst.
Michele is active in the Green Mountain community and has been for some time. I recently learned that she is running for the Green Mountain Water Board. After hearing about the salmonella contamination in the water system in Alamosa, she was ever more determined to involve herself in an area where she has expertise and the background to bring something to the table where she could make a difference.
A lifelong resident of Lakewood, and graduate of Green Mountain High School, Michele currently attends the Colorado School of Mines where she is taking engineering courses, while also working for Pinyon Environmental Engineering Co. She is the former Chair of the City of Lakewood's Youth Commission and also the former President of the Green Mountain High School Key Club. Michele is a graduate of the West Chamber's Youth Leadership Jefferson program. In addition she participated in orchestra, girl scouts and Westernaires.
Michele spoke to me in detail about her commitment to utilizing the latest technology to keep our water safe, maintain and repair our aging infrastructure, while keeping our water rates as low as possible. She believes that we should be mindful of water conservation, even when there's a surplus after a season of high precipitation. Her experience by way of education and training makes her a perfect candidate for the Green Mountain Water Board.
You can vote in person at the water district headquarters at 13919 W. Utah Ave. on Tuesday May 6th, or request an absentee ballot by calling 303-985-1581.
Michele Wiechman is one of those people who has all of the elements to make a positive impact on our community.
