Fashion, food and fun at new Belmar event
Contributed by: Linda Little on 5/5/2008

Friends gathered at The Plaza at Belmar to get the latest fashion tips, enjoy mock-tails and appetizers, and partake in some serious pampering at The Elements of Style on May 3. Fashion experts provided the audience with tips on how to be "in style" this spring while Belmar merchants pampered guests with massages, makeup touchups, skincare treatments, fashion photo sessions and free gifts.

The Style Matters gals, Judie Schwartz and Evelinda Urman, were special guests who presented two out of the five fashion seminars. These two style experts shared with guests the must have items for spring and summer and discussed topics like "how to accessorize the little black dress," and "top trends for summer."

"It was fun, it was modern and there was something there for everyone. As always, the Belmar retailers were there to please," said Urman.

Everyone knows that New York has a fashion style, but no one has ever talked about "What is Denver's Style" until Vanessa Barcus and Melissa Gelfand, fashion experts from online boutique Goldyn, showcased Denver's top fashion trends. Goldyn had a special four-day trunk show at Belmar.

"In the last 10 years, Denver has become a bit of a melting pot of people from all over the country. While people that live here will always be active and lifestyle-oriented, meaning that they are going to look for casual/comfortable/functional clothing, Denver is also becoming much more fashion-forward at the same time. Today Denver's style is the fusion of these two elements - where function and comfort meet the latest trends," said Barcus.

Other presenters were the team from Belmar's Gap and Baby Gap who talked about GAP style, and Amara Martin from Dress for Success who presented tips on business fashions.

"This was a great way to spend some time with my friend Nichole," said Jennifer Szalay, of Lakewood. "The Elements of Style was a lot more fun and interactive than a typical fashion event. We picked up a lot of great tips and some free goodies."

Many people attending the festivities brought handbags and accessories to donate to Dress for Success, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance low-income women's economic and social development. Amara Martin told participants, "The Elements of Style event was extremely successful because it created awareness about Dress for Success Denver and generated donations to help sustain our programs for women in the community."

Booths set up around the Plaza offered free bites from Belmar and frozen mock-tails, shopping and free gifts. Everyone "got the scoop" at the 5280 booth that provided scoops of free candy.

Massage Envy gave free chair massages, Shear Productions provided hair and make-up tips, Working With Artists did free fashion photos and Coldwater Creek did mini spa treatments. The Belmar Center and Bouquets gave great entertaining and floral tips and some of Belmar's independent boutiques like Composition, The Fall Line, Kamala and Appledoodles also shared a booth showcasing their fantastic merchandise.
