Public may provide input on proposed grocery tax ordinance
- The City Council will consider elimination of the grocery food sales tax beginning in 2009 at its regular meeting on May 12 at 7 p.m. The ordinance would also rescind temporary waivers of one percent of the sales tax within certain areas of the City that include the Creekside shopping center and Colorado Mills. Residents may give input during the public hearing period before a final vote is taken on the ordinance.
Work begins on St. Anthony site
- Construction contractor, GE Johnson, has started its site preparation at the location of the future home of St. Anthony West Hospital on the Denver Federal Center. The first steps include removing old buildings and foundations on the 50-acre site. Lakewood's first full service hospital is located on the western edge of the Federal Center property near 2nd Avenue and Alameda. The first phase is scheduled to open in 2010. When it is completed, the $430 million hospital will have approximately 270 beds with the possibility of expanding.
Countdown is on to the Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon
- With only a week left until the 3rd Annual Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon, activity is picking up. - In keeping with Lakewood's theme of an "All Inclusive Community," the City is joining in the national celebration and recognizing May as Older Americans' Month. This year's theme is "Working Together for Strong, Healthy, and Supportive Communities." Lakewood's residents age 60 and better comprise 23,674 or 16.2% of our total population. By 2015, Jefferson County's residents age 60+ will increase by nearly 18,000, foretelling a growth trend in Lakewood's older adult population. - Vde10
