PEEPING TOM SPIES FROM ATTIC
After allegedly climbing into the attic to peer into his female neighbor's bathroom, a 26-year-old Lakewood man was arrested March 6 on suspicion of window peeping. A 24-year-old woman who lives in an apartment complex on the 900 block of Allison Street called police after hearing strange sounds above her apartment, which she thought was strange because she is on the top floor. The woman said she heard what appeared to be someone walking around above her, which she thought was strange because she lives on the top level of her apartment, reports said. Police went up to the attic and discovered the insulation had been pushed away from the woman's bathroom ceiling area and a large hole had been cut along the edge of the fan to allow full view into the bathroom. When police asked her if there was anyone she thought might be going up into the attic, she replied, "The guy next door. He's creepy." The neighbor across the hall from the woman reportedly said she had seen the man leaving the attic. When police questioned the man, he said he had been up in the attic trying to fix his water pipes. After repeated questioning, the man allegedly admitted that he had gone into the attic to try to access free cable TV, and while he was up there he noticed how easy it was to look into his neighbor's apartment. The man was booked and released on a summons.
POLICE INVESTIGATE LOUD PARTY
A report of a loud party brought police to the 1000 block of Balsam Street at 1:35 a.m. Aug. 17. Oofficers could hear music from the apartment while standing on the street.The resident of the apartment, a 35-year-old woman from Lakewood, answered the door and told police she would turn off the music. At 1:56 a.m., the music was still loud, and when police knocked on the door, the women yelled,"(Expletive) the police,they can't come in here." Police returned to the residence at 3:02 a.m. on the report of continued loud music and again the women refused to answer the door. She instead walked over to the stereo and turned up the music. Police returned at 10:30 p.m. and this time the woman answered the door. She was arrested on suspicion of making unreasonable noise.
MAN DISCOVERED INSIDE WOMEN'S RESTROOM
The report of a man in the women's room at a public library brought police to the 10200 block of West 20th Avenue at 1:29 p.m. Feb. 25. The woman who reported the incident reportedly told police that while she was in one of the stalls in the woman's restroom, a man walked out of the other stall with his pants around his ankles, according to police reports. The man allegedly touched himself while looking at the woman through the gap in the stall door, police said. The woman ran out of the bathroom screaming, reports said. The man left the library but police were able to contact him after a witness gave a description of his car, reports said. The man reportedly told police he had gone into the woman's room by mistake and denied exposing himself, reports said. The man, a 50-year-old Denver resident, was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and lodged at the Jefferson County Jail. He is a registered sex offender, police said.
SHOPLIFTER BITES SAFEWAY EMPLOYEE
A 57-year-old Lakewood woman was arrested on suspicion of assault and shoplifting at 11:20 a.m. Oct. 9 at the Safeway at 13111 W. Alameda Parkway. One of the store's employees observed the woman pick up a package of ground beef and put it in her purse. The employee confronted the woman near the front of the store, and the woman reportedly bit the employee on the arm during her attempt to escape. The employee wrestled the woman to the floor and she was escorted to the store's office with the help of the manager. Once inside the office, the woman threw the ground beef over the wall and tried to hide her other stolen merchandise, which included beef jerky and cans of chicken gravy, under the scattered papers in the office. When police contacted the woman, she said, "He pushed me, that's why I bit him. It was an instinct thing. I've never hurt anyone." She was transported to the Lakewood Police Department. At the station, she reportedly began to cry and said, "If you talk to him, tell him I am sorry for biting him." She was released on a summons.
MAN WALKS OFF WITH VIDEO GAMES
A "scruffy-looking" man in a gray hoodie allegedly stole nine video games from a video rental store on the 600 block on Wadsworth Boulevard at 5:20 p.m. Jan. 15. According to police reports, the man was looking at the video games when one of the employees noticed he was popping the cases off the games. The employee confronted the man and asked him give her the items, saying the police had been contacted. The man reportedly said, "I might as well take whatever I want then." When the employee reached out to take the games back, the man allegedly said, "Come near me and I will hit you." The man then reportedly left the store with his arms full and walked through the parking lot. The estimated loss was $350.
MAN INSISTS ON BEING TAKEN TO JAIL
After insisting that he be taken to jail, a 19-year-old Lakewood man was arrested at 10:15 p.m. Feb. 9 on suspicion of disorderly conduct and false reporting to authorities. According to police reports, officers responded to the 9800 block of West Girton Drive on a loud music compliant. A 17-year-old girl answered the door and reportedly told officers she lived at the apartment with her husband, reports said. Officers contacted the husband, who appeared to be intoxicated, and reportedly told officers he was 21 years old. When police checked his ID, they discovered he was only 19 and wrote him a ticket for underage possession of alcohol, reports said. The man allegedly refused to sign the ticket and said he might as well be taken to jail because he is on probation, police said. After police told him to go home, the man reportedly walked in front of the patrol car and screamed, "This is disorderly, this is disorderly. Take me to jail," police said. Since the man continued to block the officer's exit from the scene, he was arrested and transported to the police department.
ROAD RAGE ENDS IN SHOVING MATCH
A 22-year-old Lakewood woman was given a summons on suspicion of disorderly conduct after allegedly shoving another woman during a road-rage incident. According to police reports, a 56-year-old woman was driving westbound on the 8000 block of 26th Avenue at 5:32 p.m. Aug. 22 when the driver of the car in front of her, the 22-year-old woman, slammed on her brakes. The 56-year-old was able to stop, but the driver of the car in back of her began honking repeatedly. Thinking it was the 56-year-old who had honked, the 22-year-old got out of the car and allegedly yelled obscenities at the other woman and challenged her to a fight. When the 56-year-old got out of her car, the other woman shoved her twice, reports said.
MASSAGE PARLOR PROMISES HAPPY ENDING
A Lakewood massage parlor was cited for prostitution after an undercover agent was allegedly offered more than a massage during an investigation. At 1:45 p.m. Sept. 6, an undercover officer entered Euro Massage Therapy at 305 Sheridan Boulevard and requested a massage. After receiving the massage, the officer asked the masseuse if she did anything extra for tips. After the woman allegedly agreed to perform a sexual act for a fee, uniformed officers entered the parlor. Two women, a 51-year-old from Denver and a 45-yeara-old from Lakewood, were arrested on suspicion of prostitution, and the parlor's owner, a 51-year-old from Monument, was arrested on suspicion of keeping a place of prostitution.
HOMELESS MAN FILLS POCKETS WITH CRAFT SUPPLIES
A 38-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting $217.17 worth of merchandise from Michaels at 441 S. Wadsworth Blvd. at 8:12 p.m. Nov. 3. A store employee told police the man was acting nervous and smelled of alcohol. She observed the man fill his jacket pockets with various items such as costume beads and pens. The man then attempted to leave the store through the "Enter" door. The store employee yelled at him to stop and the man pried the door open and took off running through the parking lot. As he ran, the man emptied his pockets of the stolen goods. Police contacted the man in a ditch near the southeast corner of the parking lot. He was transported to the Lakewood Police Department.
WOMEN TAKE OFF-ROAD ADVENTURE
After allegedly driving on private property to do some "off roading," two women were issued summons on suspicion of trespassing at 10:42 p.m. June 8. According to police reports, an officer observed a vehicle drive onto private property at 3900 South Wadsworth Boulevard, where several "No Trespassing" signs are posted. When officers contacted the two women in the vehicle, a 20-year-old from Morrison and a 19-year-old from Lakewood, they expressing their disbelief and anger as being pulled over through snide comments, reports said. Both women were released on summons.
GRANDMOTHER'S CAR STOLEN FROM DRIVEWAY
A 61-year-old Wheat Ridge woman had her car stolen after she left it running in a driveway while dropping off her grandchildren on the 1300 block of Saulsbury Street at 12:03 a.m. Oct. 22. The woman told police she did not hear the car leave, but the 2000 Mercury Cougar was gone when she returned two minutes later. Police apprehended three suspects after the stolen car was discovered outside a residence on the 1600 block of Jay Street at 3:19 a.m. Police arrested a 23-year-old Denver man on suspicion of first-degree vehicle theft. A 17-year-old juvenile male from Wheat Ridge and an 18-year-old man from Lakewood were arrested on suspicion of second-degree criminal trespass.
FIGHT BREAKS OUT AT NIGHTCLUB
Police responded to Notter's House of Drinks, a bar/night club at 999 Sheridan Blvd., on a report of a fight at 12:55 a.m. Sept. 17. Security guards had handcuffed two men, a 21-year-old from Lakewood and a 23-year-old from Denver, after punches started flying on the dance floor. The 21-year-old man told police he was in the bathroom of the club when several individuals jumped him. The fight continued on the club's dance floor until bouncers stepped in. Both men had minor cuts as a result on the fight and were issued summonses on suspicion of disorderly conduct.
WOMEN FIGHT IN WAL-MART PARKING LOT
The report of a fight brought police to the Wal-Mart at 7455 W. Colfax Ave. at 10:23 p.m. July 13. According to police reports, a 37-year-old woman from Lakewood and her 16-year-old daughter got into a fight with two other women. A man who was getting a ride from the 37-year-old reportedly told police the confrontation occurred after a car pulled into the spot next to them and the 16-year-old daughter thought it almost hit her younger sister. The mother and 16-year-old became enraged and opened the car's doors and started assaulting the passengers, police said. The man reportedly said about the mother and daughter, "Those woman are crazy. They just went nuts and started hitting those girls for no reason." The mother and daughter were issued summonses on suspicion of disorderly conduct.
GIVING THE FINGER IS BAD KARMA
An off-duty police officer was on his way to work when he witnessed an SUV cut off a Honda and nearly cause an accident at 20th Avenue and Teller Street at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 28. The officer noticed that the driver of the Honda was upset, so he got out of his car and approached her when she stopped at the next light. The 26-year-old woman from Lakewood told the officer that she was surprised when the SUV swerved in front of her and slammed on its brakes. The driver of the SUV, a woman, also yelled "(Expletive) you," and flipped her off. After looking up the SUV's license number, police contacted the driver of the SUV at her house on the 1900 block of Kendall St. The 36-year-old woman told police she was on her way to get her sick son some medicine when the incident occurred. When police told her she was going to be cited for disorderly conduct and reckless driving, the woman said, "What, I can't even flip someone off anymore?" The woman was issued the summonses and released.
