The Lakewood Police Department is currently investigating the death of an adult female whose body was found shortly after 6 P.M. on May 9. The body was discovered after police agents responded to investigate calls about an odor coming from an apartment in the 600 block of South Reed St.
Currently detectives believe that it is a case of homicide and that they know the identity of the victim, however due to the state of decomposition, a positive identification as well as an exact cause of death remain unknown. An autopsy has been scheduled and should assist detectives in establishing both.
Detectives think that the case may have stemmed from a domestic violence incident. Although no arrest has been made in the case, detectives believe that a man who is in custody in another jurisdiction on unrelated charges, is someone that they would like to question in the matter. As in any case, the man's identity cannot be released until either an arrest is made or a warrant obtained on charges related to this investigation.
Lakewood police do not believe that the public is in danger nor that the incident was a random crime.
The identity of the deceased party is being withheld until positive identification can be made and relatives notified.
