Incidents reported by Lakewood Police
NEIGHBORS GET IN FIGHT ABOUT DOGGIE DOO
A report of an altercation over doggie doo brought police to the 1600 block of South Deframe Street at 7:25 p.m. May 11. A 47-year-old man told police he saw a 77-year-old man walking his dog across the street from his home. When the 77-year-old man did not clean up after his dog, the 47-year-old brought him a bag and asked him to pick up the feces. The older man began yelling and struck the other man in the face. When police contacted the 77-year-old, he said he no longer picks up after his dog and said, "Why should I be the only one to do so?" The man said he felt threatened when the other man "waved the bag around" in his face, so he struck him. The man was issued summonses on suspicion of harassment and failure to remove dog defecation.
WALLET STOLEN FROM NURSING HOME RESIDENT
Police were called to Grand Oaks nursing home, 1150 Oak St., at 8 a.m. April 29 on a report of an employee theft. The previous day, there was an argument between a resident and a nursing assistant who works there. Staff members told police the resident, a 50-year-old woman who is confined to a wheelchair, was crying and begging the nursing assistant,a 41-year-old Arvada man, to empty his pockets. The man refused and ran out the front door. The resident said her wallet was missing, and the only one who could have stolen it was the nursing assistant. The wallet had $200 in cash. When police contacted the man on May 7, he admitted to taking the money. He was issued a summons on suspicion of petty theft and released.
SPEEDING SUSPECTS TRY TO DITCH DRUGS
At 10:30 a.m. May 8, police observed a Ford Taurus going 42 mph in a 35-mph zone along West Colfax Avenue and Gray Street. The driver of the car also was not wearing a seat belt. When police attempted to pull over the car, the driver made an abrupt right turn onto Benton Street. As the car went around the corner, police observed a small black pouch sail out of the passenger window. The car finally stopped in a parking lot behind 5400 W. Colfax Ave. Police ordered both the driver and the passenger out of the vehicle. The driver, a 28-year-old Westminster man, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to elude a police officer and careless driving. The passenger, a 26-year-old Northglenn man, admitted to throwing the pouch out the window. It was found to contain several plastic baggies of methamphetamine. The man was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and was found to have an outstanding warrant on drug charges. Both men were lodged at Jefferson County Jail.
MAN SUSPECTED OF STEALING CAR, DOG
Police responded to an apartment complex on the 10000 block of West 25th Avenue at 10:37 p.m. May 10 on a report of a car theft. A woman told police she had been drinking with some of her friends when one of them, a 23-year-old Denver man, started to get loud because of his level of intoxication and was told to go take a walk. The man then took the woman's car keys from her purse and sped out of the parking lot. The woman said he did not have permission to take her car and she wanted to pursue charges. The man had also taken a brown Chihuaha belonging to one of the people at the party with him when he left. The man returned to the apartment after about 10 minutes with the car but without the dog. When police contacted the man, he was combative and belligerent and insisted he had done nothing wrong. He was arrested on suspicion of theft of the dog, second degree motor vehicle theft, DUI, obstruction of a peace officer and driving with a denied license. He continued to yell threats at police while being transported to Jefferson County Jail.
MAN CAUGHT FOR PUBLIC INDECENCY IN DMV PARKING LOT
Police responded to the Department of Motor Vehicles, 1881 Pierce St., at 8 a.m. May 12 on a report of a man masturbating in the parking lot. A security officer told police he had seen the man fondling himself while sitting at a picnic table near the DMV's parking lot. When police contacted the 21-year-old Denver man, he said he had been waiting to speak with his mother, who is an employee at the DMV, and decide to "touch himself" while he was waiting. He said he was very embarrassed to have been caught. He was booked at the police department on suspicion of public indecency and released on summons.
