Police blotter: Tagger says he's an artist

Incidents reported by Lakewood Police

Police were called to 11045 W. Colfax Ave.
at 9:08 a.m. June 1 on a report of graffiti in progress. The reporting party said he saw a man with a blue backpack and skateboard spray-painting the east wall of the business,
Ishtar Babylon Hookah. Police contacted a man matching the description at a bus stop at West Colfax Avenue and Routt Street. When police approached the 18-year-old man, he said, "I had permission to paint that wall." When police asked what wall, the man said, "The wall at Ishtar, they paid me to paint their wall, I'm an artist, see, I got sponsors and everything." When police contacted the owners, they denied knowing the man or giving him permission to paint. He was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief. The man became increasingly hostile toward police, and during the booking process, he continued to yell at officers, demanding his medication and to speak with his mother. He was lodged at Jefferson County Jail.

At 10:55 a.m. May 27, police were called to an apartment complex on the 5000 block of West Third Place on a report of an abandoned dog. The woman who called police said she was concerned about her neighbor's dog. The dog appeared ill and had been left alone in the apartment when its owner, a 35-year-old Lakewood man, was evicted. When police were unable to reach the man, they called his mother, who refused to come pick up the dog. Officers removed the dog from the apartment, as well as a cat that had a leg injury. The man was issued summonses on suspicion of cruelty to animals and neglect of animals

Police responded to the area of Sharks Saloon, 11475 Colfax Ave .,on a report of a drunk driver at 1:21 a.m. June 1 . The driver of a white Chevy pickup had reportedly left the bar and struck the center median. Police contacted the driver, a 43-year-old Morrison man, who was standing near the back of his truck. The man started to approach the cab of the truck, and after ignoring police orders to stop, he was handcuffed. The man was arrested on suspicion of DUI, careless driving and obstructing a peace officer. He was lodged in detox.

A 50 year-old Lakewood woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI at 11:31 p.m. June 2. An officer pulled over the woman at West Jewell Avenue and South Hoyt Street for having a headlight out on the car's driver side. When the officer contacted the woman, she smelled alcohol on the woman's breath. The woman said she consumed two beers in 1 1/2 hours. She reportedly failed roadside maneuvers. The woman was arrested and lodged at detox.
