DUI DRIVER ATTEMPTS HIT AND RUN
Police responded to the 6900 block of Jefferson Avenue at 7:18 p.m. May 29 on a report of a DUI accident. A witness told police he observed a Toyota Camry driving east on Jefferson Avenue at about 100 mph. The car hit a dip and went airborne, hit the front end of another car and then hit a sign. The driver then got out of the car and walked away. The 33-year-old Littleton man was contacted a short distance away and transported to the hospital. He was later arrested on suspicion of a number of offenses including DUI, reckless driving, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and driving with a revoked license. The driver of the car that had been hit told police he was driving westbound on Jefferson when he noticed the Camry coming at a high speed. He said he stopped his car and the Camry struck a curb, hit the front end of his car and continued east until it struck the sign. The driver said if he had he not stopped his car, he would have been hit head on.
BIKE THEFT THWARTED
Police were called to South Pierce Street and West Kentucky Avenue at 12:52 a.m. May 31 on a report of two men attempting to steal a bicycle. The man who reported the incident told police he was in his front yard on the 6200 block of Mississippi Place when saw two males, one on foot and one on a bike, approach his porch. The man on foot grabbed an unsecured mountain bike from the porch. The bike's owner yelled at the men and they put the bike back. When police contacted the men, they denied trying to steal the bike. The 21-year-old man and 18-year-old man, both of Lakewood, were arrested on suspicion of petty theft.
SHOOTING SHENANIGANS CAUGHT ON TAPE
Police responded to the 2500 block of Hoyt Street at 9:24 p.m. May 27 on a report of a man shooting a rifle. A neighbor who reported the incident told police he had the incident on video. He said he had a history of problems with his neighbors being drunk and climbing over his fence and so he installed cameras and motion sensors in his backyard. The video shows one man coming outside with a rifle as another stands in the doorway and covers his ears. There is a loud "bang" as the gun goes off and then both men laugh and go inside. The 35-year-old men told police they each took a turn shooting the gun at the ground. They were arrested on suspicion of reckless discharge of a firearm.
