Police blotter: Shoplifters scuffle with security

Incidents reported by Lakewood Police

SHOPLIFTERS SCUFFLE WITH SECURITY
At 4:38 p.m. June 2, police were called to Colorado Mills, 14500 W. Colfax Ave., on a report of a shoplifting incident. A loss prevention officer for Neiman Marcus told police that he observed via security camera a group of shoppers, two males and two females, conceal merchandise in a large shopping bag. As one person placed jeans into the bag, the others attempted to act as screens to block the camera. When the group left the store without paying for the items, they were contacted by two loss prevention officers. Both the women began screaming and a brief struggle ensued as the male subjects tried to prevent the officers from apprehending the female holding the merchandise, who ran to a car in the parking lot. The other three took off on foot and all were later apprehended on the north side of Colfax Avenue near Mimi's Café. The 41- and 23-year-old women, 14-year-old male juvenile and 22-year-old man were given summonses on suspicion of shoplifting and harassment for the scuffle with the officers. Police recovered $540 worth of stolen merchandise from Neiman Marcus and Saks 5th Avenue.

DRUNK MAN FOUND IN BACKYARD
Police were called to the 900 block of South Vance Street at 2:44 a.m. June 14 on a report of an unwanted person. The owner of the residence told police there was an unknown man in his backyard. Officers located the 20-year-old Lakewood man, who appeared extremely intoxicated, lying on the ground. He said he had been "jumped" while at a party on the 200 block of South Teller Street and requested medical attention because he "hurt all over." He was transported to West Metro Station 7 and later to a hospital. The man was issued a summons on suspicion of trespassing.
