DRUNK MAN SMASHES CASH REGISTER
The report of a drunk man causing a disturbance brought police to Burger King, 6135 W. Colfax Ave., at 9:21 p.m. June 25. Employees told police that a man had entered the store earlier that evening to buy food and was upset at how much it cost, so he threw money at the counter. He returned about an hour later, still angry, and pushed one of the cash registers to the floor before leaving. Police located the man at the corner of Colfax and Kendall Street. He appeared extremely intoxicated, as his speech was slurred and he almost fell down several times. When asked about the cash register, he kept repeating, "But it's not broken." The 44-year-old Arvada man was found to have $166 in crumpled bills in his pockets. He was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief and lodged at detox. LOOKING FOR CHANGE
The report of a man attempting to steal quarters from a car wash brought police to Power Wash, 11695 W. Colfax Ave., at 4:51 p.m. June 28. The man who had called police told officers that while driving eastbound past the car wash, he had observed a man trying to jimmy a coin machines with a wire. The 67-year-old suspect was located across the street. The Lakewood man admitted to tampering with the machine and said he was unsuccessful in getting any money out. The owner of the car wash told police the man had tried to tamper with the machines in the past, but due to the configuration of the coin slots and the location of the money, it was impossible to remove coins. The owner said he had problems with the man had harassing customers for money. The man was found to have two active warrants for open container charges and was arrested and lodged at Jefferson County Jail.
CUSTOMER ANGRY AT SANDWICH SHOP
Police were called to Quiznos, 14413 W. Colfax Ave., at 6:56 p.m. June 24 on a report of a customer making threats. A 27-year-old female store employee told police that a man, woman and three kids had entered the store and ordered three sandwiches. When the cashier repeated the order back to him, the man said, "No, that's not what I (expletive) said." The man became angry, called the cashier expletives and stormed out of the store with his family. Afraid the man might return, the cashier wrote down the man's license plate and called police. When police located the man, he said the employee was "snotty straight from the start" and was texting on her phone instead of taking their order. When the woman continued to be rude while helping them, the man told her, "You know what, chick, you can take your attitude and shove it up your (expletive)." He denied using the "F" word because he is a Christian. The 34-year-old Lakewood man was issued a summons on suspicion of disorderly conduct.
MAN PANHANDLES AT CASA BONITA
At 5:10 p.m. June 28, a 39-year-old Lakewood man was observed panhandling in front of Casa Bonita, 6715 W. Colfax Ave. The man refused to leave when asked by security and continued to beg for money from patrons of the restaurant. He was issued a summons on suspicion of aggressive begging.
BASKETBALL HOOP BLOCKS TRAFFIC
A report of a basketball hoop in the street brought police to the 2200 block of South Holman Circle at 4:15 p.m. June 25. The hoop was on the corner of Iliff Avenue and Holman Circle, causing a hazard for passing cars. The street used to be a dead end but has become a frequently-used thoroughfare due to the Solterra development. The 44-year-old Lakewood woman who owned the hoop complained of speeders in the area and said she was told it was ok for kids to play with the hoop in the street. She was cited on suspicion of obstructing traffic.
