Summer reading options abound
Contributed by: Erin Todd on 5/14/2008

Spend the lazy days of summer with a good book. Are you or your children looking for a fascinating and exciting way to spend the long, hot days? Join Jefferson County Public Library's Summer Reading Club, June 1-July 31. Call 303-235-JCPL (5275). Programs and classes at all Jefferson County Public Library locations are listed at http://jefferson.lib.co.us - the Library web site.

Kids' Summer Reading

If you're looking for some excitement this summer, join the Kids' Summer Reading Club, "Flutter. Buzz. Zoom. Read!" and see what there is to be explored. The club is open to kids, elementary through age 12.

Kids who read or listen to books for eight hours will receive a free paperback book on Book Award Day, or any day in August. Also, they will be entered into a prize drawing.

When kids are taking a break from reading, they can join us for our summer programs, including "Red Tail: The Mountain Man," "Bug People from Outer Space," "Flutterby" and more. Tickets are required and are available for free at any Jefferson County Public Library location. Find the complete list of programs in the Summer Reading Club brochure available at each of our libraries and on our web site.

Teen Summer Reading

From pet care, to jewelry, to games and dancing, our Teen Summer Reading Club, "My Library. My Space." will show teens creative ways to stand out. Drop in for "Color 'N Space," where you'll learn how to use color, perspective drawings and floor plans to transform your room into a new space; "Who's Got the Moves?" (a Dance Dance Revolution program) and more.

Read for eight hours, receive a free paperback on Book Award Day and enter the grand prize drawing for one of 20 FirstBank Visa gift cards .

Adult Summer Reading

Adult Summer Reading Club participants can log the titles they have read in their reading Passport. For each book you read, your name will be entered in our prize drawing. Prizes include tickets to our annual InSight & InPerson Distinguished Author Series, and a chance to win a $500 airline gift card.

This year, if kids and teens read 160,000 total hours, the Jefferson County Library Foundation will donate $1,000 in books to Colorado Homeless Families.

In 2007, kids and teens easily exceeded the goal of 150,000 hours, reading a total of 232,731 hours. Help us rack up those reading hours and make the summer better for families in need!
