Lakewood mayor recognizes businesses


2009 Mayor's Business Appreciation Event
recognizes innovators, entrepreneurs and long-running businesses

Lakewood honored some of the longest running businesses in the city, innovators in technology and other Lakewood companies during the annual Mayor's Business Appreciation Event.

The event, which occurred on July 31, highlights the important economic work occurring in the community and honors the award winners who are contributing to the city's economic stability and vitality.

"It's important to take time every year to let our Lakewood businesses know how appreciated they are for the important work they do, what they contribute to the community and for locating and staying in Lakewood," said Mayor Bob Murphy.

Following are this year's recipients:

Zeachem Inc. received the Innovative New Technology Award for pioneering revolutionary new technology that efficiently and cost-effectively converts biomass into ethanol fuel.

Primus Metals received the Business Growth Award for showing significant growth in employment and revenue. Since its founding, it has grown into a technologically savvy, 27,000-square-foot operationemploying more than 60 people.

Ravi Molhatra of the International Center for Appropriate and Sustainable Technology received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for his innovative approach and dedication to fostering sustainable technologies.

More than 40 businesses ranging from restaurants to hair salons to bicycle shops to a rental equipment company received a 40 Year Anniversary Longevity Proclamation honoring their successful operation in Lakewood since 1969 or earlier.
