Diversity seminar in Lakewood scheduled


Inclusiveness and diversity: Why should I care?

Join three experts on inclusiveness and diversity for a free community seminar on why those values are important to the community and the workplace at the Lakewood Cultural Center, Community Room, 470 S. Allison Parkway from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 14. A continental breakfast and box lunch provided

Mayor Bob Murphy will provide welcoming comments for the seminar. Mindy Barton from the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Colorado will speak about the application of employment, housing and public accommodation laws. Helena Haynes-Carter from Xcel Energy will make the business case for diversity and provide best practices for the corporate world, and Mariza Vazquez, from the company Diversity and Conflict Management, will provide a better understanding of diversity and how it affects the workplace and communities.

The Diversity Education Committee of the Lakewood Advisory Commission for an Inclusive Community is presenting this seminar to promote the awareness, understanding and appreciation of diversity and inclusiveness. Lakewood City Council created the Advisory Commission two years ago to improve the involvement of residents in providing public input to the City Council on important community issues.
