The Lakewood Police Department and Shred-It Co., will host a Community Shred Day on Saturday, November 7th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free service allows the public to bring up to five boxes of confidential documents to be shredded on site at the northwest parking lot of the Belmar Shopping District (W. Alameda Ave. and S. Wadsworth Blvd.)
"The public response and support for previous Shred Days has been overwhelming and as a result we will be conducting another shred day for the citizens and business communities in Lakewood as a tool to prevent identity theft and fraud" said Mike Becker, Commander of the Lakewood Police Property Crimes Section.
The Lakewood Police Department felt that it would be good to get community organizations involved also. They invite different charitable organizations each time they host a Shred Day to solicit donations for their causes. This Shred Day will benefit the Lakewood Head Start Program.
"We believe Shred Days offer our citizens a tremendous service to help prevent them from becoming victims of identity theft and fraud. We are able to provide this valuable service as a result of our partnerships with Belmar, the Alameda Gateway Community Association and Shred-It Co. This Shred Day we will be accepting cash donations to benefit the Lakewood Head Start Program. We encourage citizens to take advantage of this service," said Lakewood Police Chief Kevin Paletta.
In addition to document shredding, members of the Lakewood Police Department will be on hand to provide free identity theft and fraud prevention information. They will also be available to answer any questions
