West Chatfield Ave. Roadway Improvements – Phase I

Road construction will occur on West Chatfield Ave., from South Yukon St. to the King Soopers commercial area entrance east of South Wadsworth Blvd., beginning in early June and continuing through September, 2009. Roadway improvements are needed on West Chatfield Ave. to improve traffic and pedestrian safety. Some drainage improvements will also be constructed during this phase of construction.

Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Occasional work may also occur in the evenings or on Saturdays. No full road closures are anticipated, but various lane closures will be necessary during the construction. Traffic delays are expected and alternate routes are strongly advised. In addition, noise barrier fencing will be constructed on the north side of Chatfield from the west side of Wadsworth to South Carr St.

Phase I work includes:
· Construct new curb, gutter, and sidewalk on Chatfield Ave.;
· Construct new raised center median on Chatfield Ave. west of Wadsworth Blvd. to South Yukon St.;
· Replace the center median on Chatfield east of Wadsworth;
· Construct four new pedestrian islands at the Chatfield and Wadsworth intersection;
· Widen Chatfield to two through lanes each direction and add dedicated turn lanes where necessary;
· Pave Chatfield with a new asphalt overlay;
· Construct new noise barrier wooden fencing on the north side of Chatfield from Wadsworth to South Carr St.

Phase II of the West Chatfield Ave. construction, from South Yukon St. to South Everett Way, is a separate project that is currently in the final design stage. The Phase II road construction is expected to begin in early 2010.

Jefferson County has awarded the $1,020,000.00 project to Concrete Express, Inc. Concrete Express will be the general contractor and Jefferson County Division of Highways & Transportation will oversee the construction.
