Project Leadership Program Opens to New Applicants

Metro Volunteers and Point B are accepting applications for their Project Leadership Program, which trains volunteers to lead projects and teams forMetro areanonprofit organizations.

The next Project Leadership Program consists of two evening training sessions on Sept. 22 and 29, followed by two in-field trainings. The cost to participate is $35 per person.

"Volunteers are a vital community resource, and there is a growing recognition about the need to engage volunteers to accomplish important community goals," said Kristy Judd, executive director of Metro Volunteers. "This program gives committed volunteers the training to become leaders working in partnership with local nonprofits. With the help of program graduates, nonprofits will be able to expand their resources further to serve more Coloradoans."

Metro Volunteers and Point B launched the program, which is the first of its kind in the state, in May. Graduates from the first program will soon be deployed leading volunteer projects for Project Angel Heart and other nonprofits.

Through the Project Leadership Program, participants learn to assess organizational needs, understand core business functions, lead teams and make crucial decisions during ongoing projects. Following the program, graduates will apprentice with experienced project leaders and ultimately manage community projects in the field.

Metro Volunteers is the expert resource center on volunteerism in the metro Denver area, and Point B is a nationally ranked management consulting firm known for leading mission-critical projects. The partnership between the two organizations was a natural one for this project, given their areas of expertise.

"It's been exciting to share ourknowledge with volunteers, who then put their learning into practice in the community.Over time, their combined efforts will make a significant difference in the Denver metro area," said Point B associate Chris Wozniak, who worked with Metro Volunteers in developing the Project Leadership Program.
