Christmas in October

Spirits were high as 2,011 books were loaded and delivered to the VA Hospital in Denver last week as part of an early Christmas for our veterans.

Members of the Blue Spruce Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, donated over 2,000 books for use by veterans being treated at the VA Hospital either on an in-patient or out-patient basis.

"Our members have worked all year, collecting books for us to give," said LaVaun Baldwin, Vice Regent of Blue Spruce, who originated and has spearheaded the drive the past two years. "Last year when we delivered 1,000 books, I told the lady that we'd have another 1,000 for her this year, but I didn't know where I'd get them, and here we are with over 2,000 this year! It's wonderful!"

One of the volunteers who helped to unload the books at the hospital offered that now he'd be able to even take a book home to read. "This means a lot to us. You don't know." he said, "Thank you."

National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-profit, non-political, worldwide service organization of women who are eighteen years of age or older and who can trace lineage to a person who gave aid during the War for Independence.
