Colfax Marathon traffic alert
Contributed by: Elizabeth Slivi on 5/18/2007

Traffic on race day will be a little different than usual, but not impossible to maneuver for spectators who plan ahead. Plot out a strategy that allows you to catch the athletes at key spots throughout the morning. Following them on their journey to the foothills is a great way to see the cities and celebrate the Colfax community!

-- The marathon will cause delays on RTD routes that run on and/ or cross Colfax Avenue. Riders are encouraged to contact RTD directly for full details by calling (303) 299-6000 or visiting www.RTD-Denver.com under Detours and Alerts.
-- While travel on Colfax Avenue will be restricted, the race will roll up like a carpet as athletes pass through the cities of Aurora, Denver and Lakewood. Traffic will resume normal patterns as soon as it is safe for athletes, spectators and motorists.

PLEASE NOTE: Although west bound lanes are closed in Aurora and Denver and both east and west bound lanes will be closed in Lakewood, police in all three cities will work to move traffic across major Colfax intersections in between runners in an effort to avoid bottlenecks.

Colfax Avenue in Aurora (Dunkirk St. to Yosemite St.):

-- From 6:00-8:30 a.m., Colfax Avenue in Aurora will be opened to east bound traffic only. No west bound traffic on Colfax Avenue will be permitted.

-- North and south bound intersections crossing Colfax will be closely managed. Drivers seeking to cross Colfax during the event are encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays (or better yet, park nearby and cheer on the athletes).

-- Full movement along sections of Colfax in Aurora will be made available as soon as runners leave the course and crews are able to clean the area.

--Estimated time Colfax in Aurora will resume normal operations is 8:30 a.m.

Colfax Avenue in Denver (Yosemite St. to Sheridan Blvd.):

-- From 6:00-11:00 a.m., Colfax Avenue in Denver will be opened to east bound traffic only. No west bound traffic on Colfax Avenue will be permitted.

--The Colfax Avenue exit on South Bound I-25 will be closed from 6:00-11:00 a.m.

--The Colfax Avenue exit on North Bound I-25 will remain open, but only east bound traffic on Colfax will be permitted.

-- North and south bound intersections crossing Colfax will be closely managed. Drivers seeking to cross Colfax during the event are encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays (or better yet, park nearby and cheer on the athletes).

-- Full movement along sections of Colfax in Denver will be made available as soon as runners leave the course and crews are able to clean the area.

-- Estimated time Colfax in Denver will resume normal operations is 11:00 a.m.
