Utility relocation
As spring approaches, utility relocations will increase throughout the corridor. Xcel Energy is still working between Oak and Kipling streets on both 13th Avenue and 12th Place. Power line relocations are also underway east of Kipling Street to Independence Street and the relocations from Garrison Street to Vance Street are anticipated to start by the first of April.
Xcel Energy's gas line relocation project from Pierce Street to Harlan Street is scheduled to begin in early March. Gas lines in this area will move from the south side of 13th Avenue to the north side of 13th Avenue, north of the tracks.
Early construction update
Early construction has experienced a slight delay, but Denver Transit Construction Group (the contractor) predicts a spring start for construction of the Kipling Street bridge. The first visible signs of construction will be traffic control (cones, lane adjustments, flaggers, etc.) in and around the area.
The bike path that is ultimately designed to travel over Kipling adjacent to the new light rail bridge, will be detoured at Pikeview during construction. The path will steer westbound bikers north through the residential area just west of Eiber Elementary and will access Kipling Street at 13th Place. Once across Kipling Street, the bike path detour will continue along 13th Place to Nelson Street where it will return to the current route. Lakewood will provide signage identifying a clear detoured path during the Kipling Bridge construction.
Keep in mind that the only construction for the Kipling Bridge that will happen this spring is the actual bridge across Kipling Street, the approach walls to the bridge will be built later.
Construction of the bridges in the Dry Gulch is scheduled to start in the spring as well. Construction of the Wolff Street, Tennyson Street and Hazel Court pedestrian bridges will begin shortly thereafter.
