Why should I vote for Bob Murphy?

I still don't know.

And I don't want to hear that he is not Rita Bertolli. Of course she has flaws as a candidate. Nevertheless, this election is about whether not to vote for Bob Murphy. The only other viable choice is Rita Bertolli.

If you are going to tell me that Rita Bertolli is not a viable choice, I will not be satisfied. If that is true, we are effectively living in a totalitarian city. For, if you are correct, we will not have had a viable choice for more than 16 years. If a one candidate election is what you want, so be it. Personally, I think it is a recipe for corruption and graft (we may not have it now, but if this trend continues, we might).

I would rather you tell me that Bob Murphy has better ideas for Lakewood than Ms. Bertolli does. I wish I knew what those ideas were, as he has not laid them out on his website. I find this strange as Mr. Murphy has been a planner for 14 years. Surely he has an idea for what he will do as mayor.

What exactly are his specific ideas? What will he do if he is mayor?

And, I would like to know why Mr. Murphy has not explained his position on the exchange. I and thousands of others did not agree with it. Was this a lapse of judgment on his part? Would he do the same thing if it came up again? On this forum, his supporters are ignoring the issue completely. Or they are saying that the voters were wrong and that Bob Murphy (and they) was right.

Rita Bertolli has the guts to come out and say what she thinks is wrong with Lakewood and what is right. Some of what she says is plain wrong. Some of it does not matter. But she has some ideas. She has a platform.

I know what I am getting with Rita Bertolli (except there is no telling how she will do running the city council).

I do not know what I am getting with Bob Murphy, except that he is not Rita Bertolli.

Lisa, the master plan said we should trade land for land. That was it. It did not say how much land we would give up. And it certainly did not say it would be acre for acre. The problem was not a trade in principle, but the choice offered to the city.

Maybe you didn't attend the Ward IV forum where Mr. Murphy spoke at length on the land trade issue. Bertolli RSVP'd that she would attend this forum but then failed to even show up or give anyone notice that she wasn't going to be there. In any case, Mr. Murphy discussed that the fabled land exchange came from a master plan developed and supported by my neighborhood many years ago, long before the current developer came on to the scene. In supporting the exchange, Mr. Murphy was supporting a neighborhood's master plan for their area. I know you don't like to acknowledge this, but it is FACT and also the reason every single city councilor gave as their reason for voting for the exchange. I strongly disagree with you that Bertolli is an open book as to her policies and that Murphy is not and I don't believe that position is supportable based on the information provieded by the candidates to date. In any case, Good luck with your decision.
