Economy affects pets

We are all aware of how the poor economy has affected our lives. Pets are considered part of the family for many people, and they have also been adversely affected by the economy. If you are on a tight budget providing essential veterinary care for your pet can be out of the question - until now. Enter Dr.DavidSchulman and his staff at Animal Health Care Specialists.

Dr.Schulman is a 1980 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at CornellUniversity and has a real desire to help cats and dogs. After moving to Colorado in 2000 he established Animal Health Care Specialists (AHCS) in June of 2007 in an effort to provide quality veterinary care at affordable prices. Regular prices at AHCS may be the lowest in the Denver area with uncompromised quality of care. For an example, the cost of a dental for a dog or cat is $120. That includes IV fluids, pain medication, antibiotics, and any extractions (pulled teeth). Dental care is essential for a healthy pet as the tartar on the teeth can negatively affect vital organs such as the liver and kidneys.

Saving lives at AHCS is a daily occurrence - here two examples:

  • KiKi - Kiki's owners were surrendering their dog to Shih Tzu Rescue because they couldn't afford ongoing care for severe problems including diabetes and pancreatitis. When they met Nancy from Shih Tzu Rescue at AHCS to surrender Kiki, they discovered by working with Dr.Schulman they could afford the needed veterinary care and not have to give up their sweet dog.
  • Pipsqueak - A beautiful 10-week-old kitten was brought to AHCS after nearly being eaten by a dog. The owners could not afford treatment so the kitten was surrendered. Amazingly, she survived the dog attack and had to be force fed for three days and was only able to walk in circles. She is now able to walk in a straight line, most of the time, and has started playing like a kitten should! She will find a home through Almost Home Adoptions for rescued cats when she is ready.
