As the snow starts to cover the lawn, I can't help but to think about the horses living at The Horse Protection League. Being a volunteer feeder and a volunteer member of the board, I can honestly say I worry a lot. Some of you may be familiar with the costs associated with feeding and caring for one horse, can you imagine having twenty-four?
Wintertime at what is lovingly called "The Ranch," is brutal. The volunteers shows up day after day, night after night to feed, medicate, water, blanket and touch the wide-eyed creatures. We battle the ridiculous winds, the darkness, the dampness and sometimes the flu. We do it for no monetary value whatsoever, just for the love of these animals.
Collectively we are not asking you to come up and join us during these difficult times. We are however asking you to mark your calendar for an important night for the horses. On Friday, November 6th, the Owner of the Buffalo Rose will hold a 2009 Fundraiser and Silent Auction for The Horse Protection League. It will cost $10 per person at the door, children under 10 are free. The Silent Auction will have over 100 donated items ranging from $5 and up, from Bronco tickets to handmade items. This would be a terrific time to find gifts for the holiday season and all of the money that you spend on those gifts will go toward the care and feeding of the horses.
It's such a win-win situation. Come join us. Bring the kids if you would like. It's early enough! Here's the info:
